Sovereign Edge DNS Mesh and Semantic GenAI DLP Architecture

How Guardino Technologies combines a 5-region encrypted Edge DNS mesh with a 6-layer semantic GenAI firewall and SHA-256 KMS audit trail for enterprises.

TL;DR

Modern enterprise security faces two simultaneous blind spots: unencrypted or easily manipulated DNS resolution at the network edge, and uncontrolled data leakage into generative AI assistants through browser prompts and API calls. Guardino Technologies addresses both through a unified sovereign architecture: a five-region encrypted Edge DNS mesh (Frankfurt, London, Northern Virginia, Singapore and Tokyo) and a six-layer GenAI prompt firewall combining deterministic sub-2ms scanners with GLiNER zero-shot semantic DLP and a SHA-256 KMS-signed audit ledger.

Enterprise engineering teams no longer operate inside a single corporate perimeter. Developers, analysts and executives work across distributed networks while querying large language models such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini dozens of times an hour. Traditional perimeter firewalls were not built to inspect encrypted DNS over HTTP/3 or to distinguish between a benign code snippet and an unpublished merger agreement pasted into an AI prompt.

This architectural note documents how Guardino Technologies designs, provisions and verifies its two core cybersecurity engines: the five-region sovereign Edge DNS mesh powering cybersecurity and the six-layer Guardino Sentinel GenAI firewall. The Turkish counterpart of this technical brief is published at Türkçe.

Why do traditional DNS resolvers and regex DLP filters fall short?

When an employee clicks a phishing link or a compromised dependency phones home, the very first network packet is a DNS lookup. If that lookup travels over legacy UDP port 53, any intermediate network can inspect or rewrite it. Even when companies adopt public encrypted DNS resolvers, they rarely gain per-team Response Policy Zones (RPZ) that block newly registered algorithmic phishing domains and attention-manipulating telemetry endpoints before a TCP or QUIC connection is ever established.

At the application layer, generative AI adoption has created a second structural risk. In OWASP's 2025 Top 10 for Large Language Model Applications, prompt injection (LLM01:2025), sensitive information disclosure (LLM02:2025), excessive agency (LLM06:2025) and system prompt leakage (LLM07:2025) rank among the primary operational threats facing organisations deploying AI (OWASP, 2025). Standard regular expressions can catch a structured API token or a 16-digit card number, but they are blind to indirect prompt injections hidden in retrieved documents and blind to natural-language trade secrets.

Closing both gaps requires an architecture that acts before connection establishment at the DNS layer and before payload transmission at the LLM layer.

How is the five-region sovereign Edge DNS mesh architected?

To serve enterprise teams across Europe, the United Kingdom, North America and Asia-Pacific with low latency and high fault tolerance, the Guardino Edge DNS network is deployed across five Point of Presence (PoP) regions:

  1. Frankfurt Hub (fra, EU-Central): Primary European authority node terminating DoH and DoT traffic and synchronising signed RPZ threat feeds.
  2. London Edge (lon, UK-West): Dedicated UK and Western European PoP region.
  3. Northern Virginia (iad, US-East): Primary North American PoP region.
  4. Singapore Edge (sgp, APAC-South): Southeast Asia and Oceania resolver node.
  5. Tokyo Edge (tyo, APAC-East): East Asian high-throughput edge node.

Strict TLS termination order and closed port 53

Every PoP node follows an immutable container and packet-routing contract provisioned via deterministic orchestration:

  • Firewall lockdown: Only 80/tcp (exclusively for ACME HTTP-01 certificate validation), 443/tcp (DNS-over-HTTPS with HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 QUIC) and 853/tcp (DNS-over-TLS 1.3) are open to the public internet. Legacy UDP and TCP port 53 is unconditionally blocked at the perimeter firewall level so the node can never be abused as an open amplifier.
  • Identity-preserving TLS boundary: Client devices identify their policy profile through the TLS SNI hostname (<clientId>.dns.guardino.ai) or the DoH URL path. Because of this, the Guardino Edge TLS Boundary sits at the front of the pipeline to terminate TLS and apply per-profile RPZ filtering. Validated queries are then forwarded over an isolated internal loopback bridge to the packet-cache accelerator and full DNSSEC-validating recursive resolution core.
  • RAM-only privacy: Query processing runs in ephemeral memory without writing client IP addresses or query logs to persistent disk.

Autonomous AI Threat Radar with >= 0.9 confidence gating

Static blocklists miss newly registered lookalike domains created minutes before a spear-phishing campaign. Our real-time AI Threat Radar combines lexical entropy scoring, Domain Generation Algorithm (DGA) detection and 50,000-brand edit-distance checks with an isolated Playwright Chromium vision crawler that inspects page layout for credential-harvesting dark patterns.

To prevent single-node outages or rate limits, the classification pipeline uses a redundant neural inference chain. Crucially, the system enforces a strict false-positive barrier:

  • Only domains classified as PHISHING or MALWARE with a confidence score of >= 0.9 are automatically promoted to the signed production RPZ feed.
  • Domains flagged as DARK_PATTERN are routed to a human-reviewed PENDING queue rather than auto-blocked.
  • Protected public suffixes and essential infrastructure domains are whitelisted at the parser level so a model hallucination can never take down critical services.

How does the six-layer Guardino Sentinel GenAI firewall operate in under 10ms?

When an engineer or analyst types a prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek or Copilot, or when an internal microservice calls an LLM gateway, Guardino Sentinel inspects the payload through six sequential and parallelised engines:

Engine LayerPrimary TargetExecution MethodTypical Latency
1. Prompt Injection FirewallOWASP LLM01 and LLM07 overrides, role-play jailbreaks, delimiter escapesUnicode NFKC normalisation, zero-width stripping, weighted heuristic rules< 1.5 ms
2. High-Entropy Secret ScannerCloud API keys, GitHub PATs, payment tokens, JWTs, PEM private keys, DB URIsPrefix fingerprinting plus Shannon entropy calculation< 1.2 ms
3. Checksum PII RedactorCredit cards, IBANs, national IDs (TCKN), email addresses, phone numbersLuhn algorithm, ISO 7064 Mod-97 verification, Mod-10/11 checksums< 1.0 ms
4. Zero-Width Canary TrapSystem prompt extraction and verbatim instruction leakageInvisible zero-width watermark injection and outbound token matching< 0.5 ms
5. Output Leak VerifierLeaked credentials, internal RFC1918 IPs and canary markers in LLM responsesStreaming response buffer verification before UI or API delivery< 1.5 ms
6. GLiNER Semantic DLP & Prompt GuardUnlabelled M&A targets, internal codenames, proprietary formulas, indirect injectionZero-shot NER span scoring and multilingual semantic classifier with 15ms circuit breaker4.0 - 8.5 ms

Fail-open resilience with deterministic protection

Enterprise gateways cannot afford to block engineering workflows when a remote GPU cluster restarts. Sentinel's sixth layer runs behind a non-blocking circuit breaker (timeoutMs: 15). If the GPU microservice is unreachable, the first five deterministic engines continue to enforce secret redaction, checksum PII masking and OWASP injection rules locally with zero interruption.

Why GLiNER zero-shot NER changes enterprise DLP

A sentence such as "Prepare a valuation summary for Project Northern Star acquiring Acme BioLabs at 42M EUR" contains no API key, no IBAN and no credit card number. Every regex scanner passes it clean, yet sending that sentence to a public model leaks material non-public M&A information.

Our semantic-engine microservice combines GLiNER zero-shot Named Entity Recognition (accelerated via ONNX Runtime) with contextual span detectors. By evaluating entity labels such as mergers_and_acquisitions_secret, internal_project_codename, proprietary_algorithm_or_formula and confidential_financial_projection, Sentinel redacts [REDACTED_PROJECT_CODENAME] and [REDACTED_MA_SECRET] before the prompt leaves the client boundary.

How does the SHA-256 KMS audit ledger prove SOC2 and GDPR compliance?

Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and enterprise auditors face a paradox when auditing AI firewalls: they need cryptographic proof that sensitive data was blocked or redacted, but storing the blocked prompt in an audit log creates a toxic honeypot of plaintext secrets and personal data.

Guardino Sentinel resolves this paradox through its AuditTrailLedger (lib/sentinel/audit/audit-trail.ts):

  1. Zero raw data storage: The ledger sanitizer strips all raw prompts, secret values and PII substrings. Only a SHA-256 fingerprint of the prompt (promptSha256), token counts, triggered rule identifiers, redaction categories and latency metrics are recorded.
  2. Hash-chained tamper evidence: Every audit entry includes the prevHash of the preceding entry (GENESIS_000... for the first record) and computes a canonical entryHash = SHA256(prevHash + canonicalPayload). Modifying or deleting any historical event breaks the chain immediately.
  3. Cryptographic KMS signature: Each entryHash is signed using a hardware KMS asymmetric key or a deterministic Web Crypto HMAC-SHA256 signing key.
  4. Automated compliance mapping: Every recorded event is automatically tagged against SOC2 CC6.1 (Logical Access & Data Transmission Controls), ISO/IEC 27001:2022 A.8.12 (Data Leakage Prevention), KVKK Article 12 (Data Security Obligations) and GDPR Article 32 (Security of Processing). Auditors can verify the entire chain and export JSON or CSV compliance reports via /api/v1/audit/verify.
